With more than 3 million members in Germany (end of 2007), Der Club Bertelsmann is one of the largest book and media clubs in the world. It always offers about 1,000 of the most sought-after and most up-to-date books, CDs, films and games, which are selected from new and upcoming publications and releases by Der Club experts. Many of these products are available through Der Club before they hit the shops.

Der Club Bertelsmann decided to implement Klopotek software for managing rights and royalties as well as product pool management and value adjustment in early 2008. In a joint project between arvato systems, Der Club and Klopotek, the legacy system was replaced with Klopotek’s PPM (Product Planning and Management system). The project was finished within 5 months and the first payments have been processed already.

Performing the royalty calculations using Klopotek software ensures that Der Club staff can always rely on a comprehensive overview of contracts, which assists in streamlining business processes as key information on contracts is available any time at the touch of a button.

Royalty write-offs, done for the 3rd quarter of 2008 using the newly implemented Klopotek system, are crucial for all Bertelsmann publishing companies. Such write-off processes enable the distribution and the rights acquisition departments to carry out a joint evaluation of titles that have been produced. Jürgen Eberlein, Head of Quality Control at Der Club, said, “We expect the royalty write-offs to facilitate a more effective running of our publishing program.”
