This combined business and technology model will support Elsevier’s business processes, including the acquisition, development, sales & marketing and production of their titles.
Jan Visser, Director of Electronic Production and Head of the Elsevier study team expects that, “By implementing the Klopotek system, we will streamline our business processes and more effectively market our products. This will optimize our services for both authors and customers. Klopotek’s PPM solution will become the foundation on which our solutions and technologies can easily build upon – adding business value and overall flexibility. We expect to gain an increase in the productivity of the editorial and production processes.”
During the spring and early summer of 2007, representatives from Elsevier’s Production, Editorial, Finance, Sales, Marketing and Technology groups conducted a system suitability study that consisted of a series of workshops over the course of 12 weeks. The purpose of this study was to examine the suitability of the Klopotek software for the Elsevier business requirements and to confirm that Elsevier could, in fact, increase efficiency in their Editorial, Production and Marketing processes by describing the new and future processes within the boundaries of Klopotek’s PPM capabilities.
According to Inge Wilmes, Klopotek’s Chief Operating Officer, “The study confirmed that Klopotek’s PPM software could support Elsevier’s current and future processes and can be fully integrated into the Elsevier system landscape. We expect that the system will support Elsevier’s management in achieving a quicker time to market for new products, improve workload levelling and enhance the quality of product and customer data.”
Gerrit Bos, Executive Vice President of Elsevier’s Operations commented that, “It became apparent very early in our search that we were going to choose Klopotek to fulfill our need for a standard software solution. Klopotek was not only the leading worldwide supplier, but the only organization capable of delivering an international and cost effective solution. The key question we needed to answer was whether Klopotek could adapt their solution to the complexities and unique characteristics of Elsevier’s business at a reasonable cost and with a realistic ROI.”
Gerrit went on to say, “As a result of the study, we have a very positive impression about Klopotek as a company, the Klopotek software and we are very confident the PPM solution will fulfill Elsevier‘s requirements.”
Uli Klopotek, CEO of Klopotek said, “We have invested a substantial amount of time and money in our PPM product suite over the last 3 years and it is very gratifying that the world’s largest publisher of scientific books and journals has chosen our software to support its evolving business needs for effectively managing production processes. We are pleased to welcome Elsevier as our latest international customer and are confident that by working with the Elsevier team, we will be able to deliver our solution within the agreed budget and time frame. With the support of the Elsevier team we expect to improve business workflow and provide flexibility for the upcoming challenges of their publishing business.”
The implementation project has already started and the first go-live will be in July 2008 with the global roll out to all divisions completed by the end of 2008. The joint global implementation team will consist of key Elsevier staff plus professionals from Klopotek’s global resource pool.
Both companies are looking forward to working together in a long-term partner relationship that will continue to build on Elsevier’s long record of achievement and excellence in publishing.
