Strategic Objective
Establish a single, global royalty platform to simplify operations and enable standardization
Main Challenge
Fragmented Royalty Systems and Growing Operational Risk
As a leader in global publishing and the world’s second-largest trade publisher, HarperCollins boasts a 200-year history and a catalog of more than 250,000 titles across 16 languages. With operations in 15 countries, the company faced growing complexity in managing royalties across its international business units. Different regions relied on disparate, inherited systems, increasing the risk of obsolescence in hardware, software, and internal expertise. Maintaining multiple legacy platforms drained resources and heightened operational risk, necessitating a consolidated, forward-thinking approach.
Solution & Results
A Single, Standardized Global Royalty Platform with Klopotek
HarperCollins standardized its royalty operations by deploying the Klopotek CRR (Contracts, Rights, and Royalties) platform globally, supported by a phased, multi-year rollout. Building on existing implementations in its UK and Christian divisions, the company migrated its remaining business units, including its largest division, US Trade. Drawing on its expertise and flexibility, Klopotek worked closely to tailor, adapt, and strengthen the CRR platform for HarperCollins’s complex needs.
Today, a single Klopotek instance provides centralized support, standardized processes, and a shared understanding of royalty workflows across all regions, while still accommodating local market needs. This consolidation established a modern, supportable, and auditable foundation for one of the publisher’s most critical business processes.
